The settlement of Kato Zakros, which is only 8 km away from Pano Zakros and 25km from Palaikastro, is the most impressive fishing village, hidden in the southeastern corner of Crete, behind the beautiful beach with the salt cedars.

Kato Zakros is a definitely worth a visit. If you find a place to stay, I would recommend a couple of nights here. The food is excellent, the people relaxed and the beach is great (you have it almost to yourself). You have to visit the ancient minoan castle and the Gorge of the Dead while you are there. Kato Zakros is one of the most memorable places I have visited in Crete.
