The route we suggest begins from Chania going past the road to Pelekapina, where the Palia Metohia are located, the farms of Manos with beautiful buildings, most of which originate from the Ottoman rule.

We continue over the bridge of the national road and at the “fork” that follow, we turn right. Soon we are in the beautiful village Perivolia where we follow the right crossroads to the settlement Pyrgos. At the square we turn right again and after a while we found ourselves in the village Lygides. We continue westwards, parallel to the central road to Agia.

No matter which road we will follow through the orange groves westwards, we will reach the settlements Oasi and Marmaras. Here, in the central road, we will go past the historical prisons of Agia, a place of martyrdom for many Greek patriots during the German Occupation.

As we continue toward Agia we will then see the church on the right, a sign for the lake of Agia. This excellent lake is the habitat of hundreds of migratory bird species and endemic species. This area belongs to the protected areas of the European Network of Protection NATURA 2000 and is also protected by other treaties. After our stop here, we continue our route to Kyrtomado.

After the last house of the picturesque village we continue always following the main road next to the river. Nature gererously offers amazing landscapes with plane trees, thick vegetation, orange trees and lemon trees. On our way we will meet two beautiful small churches, an outdoor place for resting and a tavern.

As we continue, we will reach the centre of the village Platanias. The return to Chania follows the central road through Agia Marina, Stalo, Kalamaki, where special attention is needed, because of the heavy traffic in the summer months.
