In your own car or on a long distance bus from Ierapetra or Aghios Nikolaos, you can easily get to Kato Chorio Ierapetra, which is situated on the national road axis that connects the two towns of the prefecture of Lasithi and the . Before we finish the ascending course, we come across the winding dirt road (the one we had left before) which two seas: the Libyan and the Cretan Sea. When we arrive at Kato Horio, we leave our vehicle, we take all the necessary equipment and a rucksack, and we begin our trekking tour to the east. We go up the road on the right of Papadiana, and after a while we leave the rural dirt road behind us and follow an old stone-paved trekking pathascends to Aghios Ioannis, a little more east. The junction on the left, to the north, leads to Thripti and to Monastiraki. From the highest point we find ourselves after a while, we enjoy the gulf of Mirabello on our right, Ierapetra with its field that abounds in olive groves on the left and the mountain chain of Dikti to the west. If we walk eastwards, at the level of Profitis Ilias, Aghios Ioannis appears before us. We go down until we come across the first houses of the village, where we are welcome by the gurgling water of its spring. Amphitheatrically built, the village looks at the Libyan Sea. In the centre of the village, the well-equipped cafe serves both the locals and the visitors coming from the coast. From the cafe, we follow the direction on the right and after the exit of the village we follow the path to Thripti on our left. If you want to avoid the rest of the ascending course and take a shortcut, you can retrace your steps on the path you followed to get here. To the North, the course is ascending, however, it is very enjoyable, especially in the spring with the rare flowers and the orchids, which are hidden behind bushes and stones. At a short distance and at the point when the ground becomes level, you follow the dirt road on the left, which leads to Kalo Horio from Thripti, to complete this marvelous trekking tour of unique natural beauty. On the right, the edge of the pine tree forest is bordered by the famous Cha gorge, whose maximum depth is 700 metres. Any further description of this fantastic landscape does not fit these few lines.
