Ecclesiastical and folk Museum of Kalyviani

At a distance of about 60 km from Heraklion, near the town of Moires, is situated the Kaliviani Monastery which included, among else, folk art workshops.

The ecclesiastical collection of the museum includes portable icons of the 18th and 19th century, vestments, gospels, manuscripts of the 19th century, woo-carved objects and priceless wood-carved iconostasis of the 18th century. The museum also has a folk department, where items of folk culture and economy are exhibited, like agricultural tools and household items.
