The cave “Panos or Lera” is developed in Mount Vardies, at an altitude of 70m., in the settlement Stavros Kydonias. It consists of an “antechamber” and four rooms with chiselled cavities, which have been explained as places for the welcome of statues.
Deep in the cave there is a spring of natural water, known as”Limni (=Lake)”. Excavation conducted by K. Davaras confirm its use from the neolithic to the byzantine times. An reference point are the engraved inscriptions of the classical times, which suggest that Pan and the Nymphs were worshipped here.
