The Beaches of Agios Nikolaos

Ammoudara Beach is located 5 km south of the town of Agios Nikolaos on the road leading from Agios Nikolaos to Sitia and Ierapetra. The beach is sandy, and is very well organized with sun beds, umbrellas, water sports and other amenities. There are a variety of tavernas, restaurants, bars, hotels, and rooms to let very close by, as well as a number luxury villas with private pools. The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status.

Almiros Beach is located 2 km south of Agios Nikolaos, and is one of the 40 beaches in the county that have been awarded a Blue Flag. The water is very shallow, and usually calm, making it ideal for families with small children. Most of the beach is covered in fine sand, with the exception of the northern section, which has a few pebbles. The beach is well organized with all the amenities: chairs, umbrellas, showers, a lifeguard, water sports and a canteen. The river from which the beach has taken its name flows into the sea at the southern end, and the surrounding area there is protected wetland.

Listi Spilios Beach (literally the ‘Robber’s Cave’ Beach) is located 7 km south of Agios Nikolaos. It is a small beach, organized by the nearby hotel, covered with rocks and pebbles. It is to be found along the road leading to Sitia and Ierapetra. The water is refreshingly cool due to the number of freshwater springs in the area.

Havania Beach lies 3.5 km north of Agios Nikolaos. It is a small organized sandy public beach providing sun beds, umbrellas, changing rooms, showers, and is open to all visitors.
