Agiofarango

Beaches

Heraklion

The well-hidden beach of Agiofarago lies at the mouth of the gorge that bears the same name. Moreover, it has been a place where heremites used to live, due to the numerous caves and caverns, used as sanctuaries or hermitages at times (hence: Aghiofarago= the Gorge of the Saints).

Aghios Antonios (Saint Antony) chapel, which lies some tenths of metres before the mouth of a stream that flows into the sea with its well permanently full of water where visitors quench their thirst, Igoumenospilio and Vourvoulitis, a doline with water that is connected with the open sea through underground passageways make up the features of this place, accessible only on foot from the mountain, or through the gorge, or even through the sea by yachting boat.
